Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)

The UK government established ESOS in July 2014, designed to be a mandatory energy assessment scheme for organisations in the UK that meet the qualification criteria.

Organisations that meet the ESOS criteria must carry out ESOS assessments once every four years. This entails an audit of the energy used on their business premises, including all industrial processes and transport.

The deadline for completion of the first period was 5th December 2015. ESOS qualification criteria includes any UK business that is a large undertaking, which in specific terms is defined as any UK company that either:

  • Employs 250 or more people, or
  • Has an annual turnover in excess of 50million Euro, and an annual balance sheet total in excess of 43million Euro
