The number of customers switching energy supplier in the UK has reached its highest level in five years. In October alone, more than 630,000 customers switched to a new electricity supplier – the highest level since 2013 according to figures released by Energy UK.
In 2018 to date, almost 5m domestic and non-domestic customers have switched supplier. Of the customers that switched in October, around 40 percent of them moved from larger to smaller suppliers. This comes on the back of Npower and SSE both revealing that they had lost around 10 per cent and 7 per cent of their customers this year alone.
“It is encouraging that increasing numbers of customers continue to switch,” said Lawrence Slade, Energy UK chief executive. “It’s more important than ever that consumers get in touch with their supplier to make sure they are on the best energy deal.”
