Centrica has signed a new deal to purchase 1.0 million tonnes per year of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for 15 years. This is at the Delfin Deepwater port, off the coast of Louisiana. Market demand for LNG continues to be strong and buying activity from the EU has accelerated over the past few months.

This agreement underpins the expansion of US LNG export capacity as the expansion of this will become important in future for reliable gas supplies.

Although the UK are focused on energy security and home energy generation, they are also smart about this.  The Energy Secretary has said that we need to secure more diverse and reliable sources of natural gas from strategic partners and allies.  Another reason that this will be a key component of our energy security strategy is that it creates positive deals with other countries that will continue for years to come.
